Project Coordinator, Healthcare Infection & Control - (Supporting Hancock, Penobscot, and Washington counties)

This position will provide Epidemiological services by supporting the Department’s core functions of the Healthcare Epidemiology Program, ensuring subject matter experts in infection control are available to provide consultation to healthcare facilities, assisting in response during public health threats and conducting surveillance and analyzing data. This position will also work with healthcare facilities providing assistance in the prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) and Antibiotic Resistance (AR) in Maine, conducting onsite or remote assessments for infection control and/or Emerging Threat readiness at healthcare facilities, providing assistance in developing action plans with focused measurable goals and conducting onsite assessments for infection control during a facility outbreak event, facilitating action plan resolutions at the facility level, preparing written reports/presentations in order to provide feedback and drive healthcare epidemiology improvement, are ensuring availability of a representative of the Healthcare Epidemiology Program at various meetings, events, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
(These responsibilities and job duties are specific to the hired position)

This position will perform the following essential functions in addition to the responsibilities listed in the position description:
• Provide infection control and Emerging Threat consultation services to extended care healthcare facilities in Maine;
• Conduct assessments to identify gaps in infection control and/or Emerging Threat readiness;
• Link healthcare facilities to evidence-based resources to mitigate those gaps;
• Develop action plans, policies and education materials with healthcare facilities to accelerate mitigation for high-risk gaps and conduct follow-up consults or site visits to ensure mitigation of gaps by established deadline;
• Conduct outbreak investigations in accordance with Department policy, protocols, and/or procedures;
• Serve as a liaison between the healthcare facility and the State’s Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL) in regard to specimen submission for laboratory testing;
• Make recommendations on control measures a facility should institute to control an outbreak;
• Provide education on infection control and prevention, and Emerging Threat readiness in extended care facilities across the State, as needed; and
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• A Bachelor of Science degree in a healthcare-related field with a minimum of two2) years’ experience in a healthcare setting
• Preferred Training/Experience:
o Two (2) years of clinical experience (e.g. direct or indirect patient care).
o One (1) year of work experience in the extended care healthcare setting.
o Formal training in Infection Prevention and Control;
o “CIC” certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC);
o At least one (1) year experience with project management;
o Has at least one (1) years of experience in using data for improvement activities, or has completed formal training;
o At least one (1) year experience in data analysis.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, web-based meeting platforms, and utilizing other web-based programs.
