Refugee Health Planning

MCD Public Health supported the Maine CDC in preparatory work toward developing a Refugee Health Plan while enhancing the MeCDC's engagement in improving health equity across Maine CDC programs. This included conducting outreach to share information with and collect information from refugees, asylum seekers, secondary immigrants, and other "New Mainers." Undertaken in partnership with United Somali Women of Maine, we held multiple community forums, collected several hundred surveys from New Mainers and conducted training for service providers from 2011 - 2013. The information from these encounters helped inform the OHE refugee health planning and future training curriculum.
